Rehabilitation is a word with much stigma around the world. Many people shy away from confronting their issues mainly due to the fear of being rejected and viewed differently in the society. Thanks to the changing norms of society, there is more awareness about addiction and the mental stress one goes through. There is help available in the form of rehabilitation centre for de-addiction in many major cities of India. Rehabilitation for De-addiction
Rehabilitation is the process that is followed by most hospitals and de-addiction centres that prepare the patient by physically removing the toxic material from the body and mentally helping the patient from addiction habits that cause the body any kind of harm, be it physical or psychological. Drugs that can make people addicted include nicotine, tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, heroine, LSD, acid, Methamphetamine etc. There are many other types of drugs that are also in rotation by drug peddlers and dealers in the world. Drugs are becoming easier to get hold of and therefore has infiltrated many layers of society, including youngsters and even children.
Rehabilitation helps in removal of the effects and remnants of the drugs from the body by complete detoxing and helping the patients to stay sober by many kinds of techniques such as therapy, counselling, vocational training, group therapy etc. Rehabilitation is done under the expert care of medical professionals including a doctor, trained nurses and staff members of the rehabilitation centre of de-addiction. Together, they formulate the best customised plan for each patient and provide care that helps in staying on track of the recovery from addiction.
Stages of Rehab
There are 5 stages of rehabilitation as followed by most of the rehabilitation centre for de-addiction:
1. Patient Analysis
In this stage, the patient is checked-in by the staff members. The doctor and the team of nurses take a complete test for all medical statistics including previous medical history, family history and the stage at which the addiction is currently in. It is also the stage where the doctor decides if the patient is to be treated in-house providing rehabilitation or as an outpatient.
2. Medical Tests and Examinations
Complete tests are taken mostly using blood samples and scans if required. This helps the doctor in analysing the condition of the body and coming up with the treatment plan that is exclusively made for the patient
3. Detoxing
Complete detox of the body is done by giving IV fluids and plenty of water and nutrients so that the toxic material flushes out from the body and helping the patient to become sober.
4. Therapy and Counselling
This step is necessary to ensure that the patient understands the importance of staying away from drugs and helps them stay sober by intense counselling sessions, cognitive therapy sessions, groups therapy sessions etc. In some cases, medication assisted treatment, a combination of psychotherapy or counseling with certain medications.
5. Recovery
The patient needs to attend meetings and stay in touch with the doctor and the de-addiction centre so that the progress can be tracked and giving the patient a sense of accountability.
