UGG Boots, what’s with the popularity? And how did it happen?

Many people claim to be the inventors of these acclaimed boots but, one thing clear about them is that they are Australian. There are records from the 1800s in which Australian shepherds used leather to strap sheepskin to their feet to help fight off the cold. This was developed into boots in rural Australia during the 1920s made to keep lanolin coming off sheep, which would rot normal boots.

The earliest commercial production of the UGG boots was seen in South Wales in 1933. However, it wasn’t till the 1970s that they came into the mainstream. This was thanks to the Australian surfing community of the time. The surfing community grew fond of these little fur boots because they warmed their cold feet after a surfing session. They slowly got popular among the general public and soon became a part of youth rebellion when ripped jeans along with the boots were banned from theatres in and around Sydney.

They gained further popularity in the 2000s, joining pop culture through celebrities. One of the major examples of this is when they were included in Oprah Winfrey’s favourite things section on the Oprah Winfrey show. Many celebrities in Hollywood were also seen wearing them in photographs, further driving their popularity up.

How are they useful, and why should you have them?

Keep you warm: One of the main selling points of the boots is that they keep you warm in the winters; that’s about as simple as it gets.

No-brainer fashion: Picking out footwear to go with your clothes is a tough job. The UGGs act as an easy fashion choice but also give you a bonus of comfort at home.

Long-lasting footwear: UGGs are built tough; we see these boots lasting for a good duration before any signs of wear. We can say that these are worth the buck we paid for them.

People just don’t get bored of them: History shows that these boots have been around for a while, but they never really ran out of fashion. Looking at this, it’s safe to say that the UGGs aren’t about to go out of fashion any time soon.

Some tips and tricks to keep your UGGs safe

Don’t wash them in the washing machine: UGGs are made from sheepskin, fur and fleece; they have high chances of turning soggy, patching up and more. So keep your UGG away from the washing machine.

Don’t pull on the loose strings: The temptation to pull all the loose stuff to make them look clean is high. This is understandable, but do try to avoid it because these may loosen up the stitches and may do a lot more harm than good.

Don’t use chemicals or bleach to clean your boot: Losing colour and charm can be expected if you do this, so clearly, don’t do it.

Try not to cook with them: Cooking can cause oil stains on them and completely ruin the look of your UGGs, so try being careful or avoid it entirely.

Choose yours to match your tastes.

UGG boots are made in different styles and types. So make sure to choose what you like the most. Some of the types are tall, short, mini, slippers, and even waterproof boots.
